The Columbus Day Regatta on Biscayne Bay is an annual sailboat race and a sand bar raft up party that attracts thousands of spectators and participants from all over the world to South Florida. The sailboat regatta was first held in 1954 and there were only 24 vessels in participation and was named in commemoration of the journey Christopher Columbus made in 1492. Today the Sailboat Race includes hundreds of sailing yachts in different categories racing over a period of 3 days on Biscayne Bay.
