Summertime is the best time for crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the the Gulf Stream.  It is also the most popular time for local boaters and residents to enjoy the water in and around South Florida. A few words of wisdom that will help you navigate the summer time weather patterns. First traditionally the mornings are dryer and you have a better chance of sunshine in the mornings than in the afternoons and early evenings during the summer months. There are exceptional days but most days that there is rain present will occur in the afternoon.  the second piece of weather wisdom has to do with the infamous ‘Summer Squal’, this ever present display of severe wind, rain, thunder and lightning needs to be respected but not feared. Squalls will pass through as quickly as they appeared on the horizon and with a modern radar you can easily track the formation, its intensity, direction and duration. Once you come to peace with these summer weather patterns life in the tropics is more enjoyble. Finally, there is one more factor that affects boating during the summertime and that is ‘Bugs”, mosquitoes of all kinds are multiplying during the hot and humid summer months and there is no escaping them but if you keep your distance form areas they preffer such as treelines and dense geen areas you should be OK this summer on the water.

Miami offers excellent destinations for guests seeking to get away on a professionally crewed luxury sport or motor yacht. Most of our daily charters and extended overnight charters request to cruise south from Miami towards the infamous and charming Florida Keys. This is the only option if you guest are seeking gin clear waters and tropical island settings with out crossing the Atlantic Ocean and visting the Bahamas. Boca Chica is the first popular stop for boaters on their way south travelling to the Keys, this destination includes a small sandy beach, picnic tables, restroom facilities and excellent dockage for vessels along the protected seawall on the interior of the island. This destination is fun for everyone and it offers a great opportunity to walk around or snorkel and explore the history of the islands and the region. The history of the land and the early settlers is displayed on boards for visitors to educate themselves and imagine what it was like for these brave settlers who are credited with being successful farmers, traders and the earliest resemblance of pirates in the region. The largest island on your way south on the ICW to Key Largo is the infamous Elliot Key, the location of the once a year all out party on the water ‘Columbus Day Regatta”. This shallow anchorage offers clear waters, coral formations and a large white sandbar running parallel to the island on the Bay side. This is the most requested destination for guest renting or chartering our crewed luxury yachts for a day or overnight rental. Many folks would refer to these islands as North Key Largo because of the proximity to Key Largo. A word a caution, navigating to either of these locations can be hazardous for novice skippers unfamiliar with area. larger vessels which are restricted by their draft will need to stick to the ICW and pay close attention to navigate through the Feather Banks and not the shallow rocks and banks on either side. When first making this trip I suggest hiring the services of a professional local yacht charter service or licensed skipper with local knowledge. If you need further information on this destination or any of the many other destination in South Florida and the Bahamas please feel free to post your inquiry and I will be happy to share my experiences with you.
