The phones are ringing off the hook again becuase it’s almost that time of the year here in beautiful South Florida. It’s almost time for our annual sailing regatta held in Biscayne Bay but more infamous is the spin off giant boat and yacht raft off party which has become known throughout the world as the largest and most exotic party on the water in South Florida. For those readers not aware of this annual event; it is three days of non-stop music, drinking and more than often a flash of nudity and no Columbus Day Regatta is complete without the ever present visits and onboard inspections by our law enforcement finest on the water. Yes folks although it’s the one weekend locals and guest from all over the world raft up together in this protected and calm area, the local law enforcement and US Coast Guard makes their presence well known. Our company has been attending and providing private luxury yacht charters for groups of all sizes, ages and nationalities since 1998. This year the yachts are getting reserved quickly and if I had to gage from the amount of enthusiasm we are encountering from our clients and guests, I would guess this year is going to be a memorable Columbus Day Regatta with rcord numbers in attendance. Summertime is the best time for crossing the Atlantic Ocean and the the Gulf Stream. It is also the most popular time for local boaters and residents to enjoy the water in and around South Florida. A few words of wisdom that will help you navigate the summer time weather patterns. First traditionally the mornings are dryer and you have a better chance of sunshine in the mornings than in the afternoons and early evenings during the summer months. There are exceptional days but most days that there is rain present will occur in the afternoon. the second piece of weather wisdom has to do with the infamous ‘Summer Squal’, this ever present display of severe wind, rain, thunder and lightning needs to be respected but not feared. Squalls will pass through as quickly as they appeared on the horizon and with a modern radar you can easily track the formation, its intensity, direction and duration. Once you come to peace with these summer weather patterns life in the tropics is more enjoyble. Finally, there is one more factor that affects boating during the summertime and that is ‘Bugs”, mosquitoes of all kinds are multiplying during the hot and humid summer months and there is no escaping them but if you keep your distance form areas they preffer such as treelines and dense geen areas you should be OK this summer on the water.
